Funny, smart personal musing on naming your kid -- by former CNN Sr.producer/writer. What's in a name? Does it matter if your kid's name is out-of-date, unusual, even bizarre? Piece is light, amusing but also touches on seemingly minor question that some parents spend tons of time on and others spend zero on...

I can't find the full list referred to on the website :( All I can find are the Top 10, of which I am not a part, sadly! I'd expect to be in the Top 20... my name is very popular ;)

I was saddled with a name that was extremely popular many years ago when I was born (the name was in the top 5 for many years) but today is the butt of jokes about sexual parts of the body. Frank reminds me of Sinatra, one of the all time great popular singers.

Yup, you can spend days thinking of names, discussing with your other half, rejecting, adding to possibles, until finally (after you've got bored to tears with the entire shennanigans), you agree !!!!!

Then she gives birth and decides there and then on a name NEITHER OF YOU HAD EVEN MENTIONED !!!!!!

Next time round, I got to pick the middle name, AND KEEP IT after saying I'm not even gonna BOTHER worrying about the first name, cos you'll change your mind anyway !!!

        Teehee.....

It has nothing to do with the name.. no matter how funny the name of the person is, if he/she become popular because of good deeds, for sure people will name their child after him

You name them what you name them and hopefully it works out OK. Our children's names come mostly because we didn't think they could be made into nicknames. Didn't want any James of mine signing his name Jimmy. Their middle names were ones we thought they cold use if they didn't like their given ones. None have gone that route though.

It is so hard to pick names, because you don't want your child to have the same name as everyone else, but you don't want their name to make them stick out too much either.

I remember when my name was unique and then a NFL guy got it and now there is one one every block. I have resentment.
